Monochrome Watercolour, dated 1928
Marianne Trench studied art at the Slade School under Bertram Nicholls and taught at Guildford. She travelled extensively on the continent, recording her visits in distinctive monochrome watercolours with finely observed perspective and superb treatment of light, shade and texture. She exhibited her watercolours in 1925 at the Fine Art Society in London.
This watercolour is one such example from the Fine Art Society and is from her excursions in the Dordogne region in France between 1928 and 1935.
